Once upon a time four mountain women, Julie Budgen, Julia Lynx, Tracey Delfs and Monika Herwig, decided they wanted to change the way women think about their breast health. Not OK with the current statistics and predictions for breast cancer and wanting to do something about it they changed the current statistics to focus on breast health declaring:

“8 in 9 women will have healthy breasts for their lifetime... we are rooting for 9

Taking an unconventional approach to prevention the simple notion, “Love Your Planet. Love Your Body. Love Your Life,” emerged and the Pink and Green Ribbon Health Program came to life. Committed to stopping cancer before it starts these four began putting into action local initiatives designed to clean up the environment and make our communities healthier places to live. The Pink and Green Ribbon was their way to get people’s attention.

Pink represents our commitment to creating breast-cancer free communities through promoting healthy breast education and focusing on prevention.

Green reflects our stand for addressing the connection between the environment and women’s health.

To spread the word in 2008 they ran a whole suite of events in the Bow Valley including an Earth Day Yogathon, a Healthy Breast Email Series, and a Breast Massage Workshop for RMT’s, a Rachel Carson Walk to launch their Pesticide Free Initiatives and Breast Health Workshop by expert Dr. Sat Dharam Khaur (ND). All this after their new Pink and Green Ribbon Health Fund donated 90 copies of Sat Dharam’s book, The Complete Natural Medicine Guide to BREAST CANCER: A Practical Manual for Understanding, Prevention and Care to libraries across Canada!

And guess what – it is volunteer driven. They hope to inspire YOU. During this twenty first century these women know that for their future and that of their daughters and sons we all need to change our approach to health. Help the campaign and help yourself by loving your breast/s just the way they are. Love them in all of their fullness and flatness and in their beautiful asymmetry. And if you’re excited about spreading this news join us in reaching Oprah with this info or anyone you know who has a big audience – send her/them an email about the Pink and Green Ribbon and Dr. Kaur’s book and let’s see if we join together we can manifest our dream of having this important information easily accessible to all women.
